We use the acronym "BLUE" to remember the signs of an opioid overdose. "B" stands for "breathing". Look for irregular, shallow, or no breathing. You could also hear snoring or gurgling sounds. "L" stands for "lips". Look for blue or purple lips and fingernails if light-skinned; ashen gray lips and fingernails if dark-skinned. "U" stands for "unresponsive". This means the person doesn't respond to shouting their name, shaking their shoulders, or a sternal rub. "E" stands for "eyes". We're looking for small, pinpoint pupils.
