What caregivers can do to help teens make responsible choices around drugs and alcohol. It's important to keep teens engaged and busy after school. Teens whose time is occupied are less likely to use drugs. Extracurricular programs such as sports, arts, drama, and other clubs are available throughout Lenawee County. A trusting, open relationship with a caregiver or other respected adult can be the most powerful element in deterring abusive patterns. Teenagers need to know that the important adults in their lives are concerned primarily with their safety and that they have someone to turn to when they need help. Prevention is simply about caring, connected relationships, and thoughtful conversations.
